I'm from Indonesia, but Indonesian language is not my mother tongue. It is my second language. Indonesia has many local languages, and because i was born in Bali, so Balinese language is my mother tongue. What about you? What is your first language?

@Ayuriny We are only required to learn English and our own mother tongue. Even though the "national" language is Malay, it is not compulsory to learn.

Tagalog is the Philippine National Language but there are 8 major dialects here. Our official language though is English. My dialect is Ilonggo.

@Ayuriny Yes and there are a lot of terms similar to Malaysian language too. That is because our language came from both countries.

My mother tongue is Iloko (Philippines) . . . my second languages are English and Spanish. But since we moved to Canada 25 years ago, English is now my first language. We only speak our mother tongue (and sometimes tagalog) at home. Your profile picture shows a pretty lady!

@Ayuriny No . . . Tagalog is our national language in the Philippines. . . Iloko is one of the dominant dialects. It is the dialect spoken by most of the northern provinces of the country. I speak Iloko and Tagalog.

Why is it that you dont know Malay? You've never learnt Malay before?
