Playing With Numbers-Week 2

As you know I started a numbers game with myself last week. The intent was to force myself to monitor my glucose and my weight. The table also includes my step count for each day and whether or not I worked on my current story. I was, and still am, having trouble finding time to write each day. I published three humorous mysteries last year, but hadn’t written two words since I retired the first of June. There were successes and failures in the week’s totals. Of the six categories I only hit 100% in three of them. I lost two and a half pounds, kept my glucose in line, and completed my Bible Study every day, but I fell short on my step count four of the seven days, and only worked on my story three days. To be honest I shouldn’t give myself credit for the writing as the sessions were ridiculously short. All total I ended up with four of the possible eight points. I’ll do better this week.

@BettyB I think that was a good move, goals need to be realistic or we get discouraged.

I changed one number goal. I can't consistently reach the 12,000 step goal. I just don't have the time. I dropped it to 10,000. It's a compromise but there has to be a chance of meeting the goal or I'll give up.

It is only week 2. You are doing great. Congratulations on the weight loss. That is a nice loss for a week.

I've lost and found the same ten pounds for years. I really need to break that cycle.

@BettyB I know that feeling. Losing weight and keeping it off is such a difficult thing to do. I wish you all the best.

It was a starting point, right, so you're on course, you will work to perfect it I'm sure.

I tweaked my list a bit. A couple of the goals were a little unrealistic. I adjusted the step count and the writing time can be made up. Some days my mother-in-law needs more of my time than others. I didn't get to write yesterday but I have the afternoon free today. If I put two hours in on my story, one hour will count for yesterday. I need that flexibility or I'll be pulling my hair out by the end of the month.

I like to be busy and I like having goals. I don't think I'm too hard on myself. I would get nothing done and be bored out of my mind if I didn't have goals to work toward.

Good for you losing weight and keeping your glucose numbers in line. Doing your Daily Bible Study is a plus and makes your day better all around. At least you're writing. I'm still working on finding the time for it. I need to pull away from myLot to get it done. So I'd say you're doing good and the fact you're keeping an account of it, will help you get it done. That's what I'm doing regarding my weight. I have a log on when I step on the scale and the weight I've lost. It keeps me accountable.

I'm writing but not enough to make a difference. I'm seriously considering switching from novels to short stories. I can't find the blocks of time I need to really focus on a longer story. My current novel is at the half way point. I'm not willing to give up on it. I just need the time, without distractions. I'll do it, but it will not be released this fall like originally planned. The lack of writing time is frustrating, but I don't regret the time I spend working on church projects or the time I need to spend with my mother-in-law. I know my priorities are in the right place.

@BettyB That's the important thing. When you know your priorities are right, everything will fall in place as it should.

It has added an interesting twist. Bottom line, I need to record my glucose daily. This is one way of doing it.
