Hey, guys! I just came across a post here on mylot that has been plagiarized. I don't think the person who wrote the original post has noticed it yet. It is one of those one liner question posts....can't see why someone can't even attempt to write one line by themselves... Anyways, I wanted to know...how do i let the admin know that the post is plagiarized? I know i can Report it....but there is no option to say WHY i am reporting it. Any suggestions? Update: The copied post was deleted.

Plagiarizing a one line post ? It has already some chances to be deleted if it is so short. Some people have really nothing to tell. Report it and the admin will find by himself that it is plagiarized : we have a smart admin.

Is it really plagiarism. One-liners can't be too original. If i say welcome to myLot to a newbie, is that plagiarism? I have said it hundreds of times and read others posting it hundreds of times.

@ms1864 That, i understand. It has happened to me on ChatAbout. Someone would take my comment and copy and paste it all over the site, scores of times.

No it was a question posted by a mylotter...and ANOTHER mylotter posted the exact same question with the same words and same title.

I find it a little strange when people do something like this...like what goes on in their minds? What is Chat About? is it like mylot?

Curious without reading ever comment here what have you deduced? Were they playing around or actually trying to make an easy dollar. Sorry I didn't see the post.

@ms1864 sounds like the desire to make a quick dollar the easy way = be a thief.

It's ok, the plagiarized post was deleted in a days time....apparently one line posts are not encouraged anyway. It was just one of the people who don't want to make an effort ...and considering the effort on mylot doesn't even feel like an effort....copying was a silly idea.

It's not necessary to explain why you report a post, but admin is glad if you leave a link to the original post in a comment. You can also send a private message to admin if you find a serial plagiarist.

@ms1864 It's very rare that a member only plagiarises one post. If they can get away with it once, they'll do it again. Some time ago I found a member by chance who had stayed under the radar and had posted plagiarised posts for eight years! Admin was happy to be notified about this.

Wow. Plagiarizing a one-liner has to be some special kind of stup.. ... please forgive my language. Anyway, reporting would be the way to go, though I didn't realize there is no option there to give a reason? I guess, I haven't reported anyone recently so I am not aware how it is. Glad that it has been deleted. That way, no one would make the mistake of participating in it, only to have their efforts go to waste after it is deleted. I, for one, spend a lot of time thinking about and writing my posts, so if anyone ever plagiarized it, I would appreciate being informed. So that might be an additional thing you could do aside from reporting - inform the one that was copied so he/she is aware.

@ms1864 Yes, I imagine it's also quite awkward telling someone that his/her one-line post was 'plagiarized'. Lol! But for something that's longer, definitely inform the one who was copied.

I'll keep that in mind...i didn't think to inform the person who made the original post...though some said that his was a one line post it might get deleted too. But i see your point.

It wasn't hard to see...the original post was posted only 1 hour before the copied one...they were just 4 posts between them...so when i was looking for discussions to read...i noticed.

Hopefully since you reported it, they will take care of it. I see a lot of one-liner posts but they are mostly from new mylotters. I'm assuming they just don't know the rules.

I'm happy the copied post was deleted. Sometimes I will see something someone else wrote on here and get inspired, but I wouldn't dream of copy and pasting something. The fun is in writing down my own words

To inspire someone is totally awesome...twice now i have seen someone write a post that was something that i had had written about...but it was very different from mine in words and thoughts.

I noticed that too where we cannot explain why we report. You can send a message to Admin explaining. . I do it sometimes.

This is why I don't make post that has much quality because others will just copy the whole thing.

lol...well we do see the topics repeated a lot of the time...but at least if they ADD something to it...write it in their own style...attempt to do something.. but i see what you mean...i i only write lighter topics on mylot... my discussions with research get posted elsewhere.

It's such a shame that people have to plagiarize on here. Surely they could find something to say in their own words. It's not as if there's even a word limit!

You don't have to plagiarize here all you have to do is write a topic you feel about.
