Favorite Sitcom Characters #1 - George Costanza

And another series comes to an end. #1 in my Favorite Sitcom Characters series is none other than Seinfeld's George Costanza.
Hilariously portrayed by Jason Alexander, George Costanza is a lovable (although some might say reprehensible) loser, and is Jerry Seinfeld's best friend on the show.
George is a neurotic, self-centered, insecure individual. He is an expert liar (he spends an inordinate amount of time pretending to be an architect, as well as pretending his name is Art Vandelay) and schemer who can't hold down a job, once going so far as to slip his boss a Mickey. Although, whenever he tries to get fired, as he did when he worked for the New York Yankees, it backfire. He also has trouble keeping a girlfriend, and is not above shoving old ladies and children out of the way to escape a fire.
Seinfeld ran for 180 episodes over nine years (1989-1998.) George Costanza appeared in all but one episode. There are so many classic George moments that, if I were to list them all, it would take a good chunk of your time to read this. Instead, I've included a link to the fire scene.

I must be the only person in the world who didn't like or watch Seinfeld.

No soup for you!
You know, I've never seen Seinfeld. And it isn't that I don't find Jerry Seinfeld funny...I just never sat down to watch it. I'm sure one day I'll stumble across something and say, "Hmm, that's interesting," start watching it, and next thing you know I'll have all nine seasons on DVD and have them memorized!
BTW, wasn't Julia Louis-Dreyfus in that show? Her father passed away last week.

Yes, she played Elaine. Did not know that about her dad, though.

George is funny. He was supposedly based on Larry David, and you can see some of the resemblance. I can see why you picked him for your fave.

I read on Wikipedia that the name came from one of Jerry's real life friends named Costanza.
