A wise man once said that if something sounds too good to be true then it usually is. In the case of the Codex Gigas it's anyone's guess as to how it came into this word, who the true author I and if the legend of it being done in one night was accurate. Considering the size and aount of detail that went into this, even if you had a thousand monks working on replicating the text and imagery you still wouldn't come close to creating a duplicate it. While it is unclear what the monk did to deserve this type of punishment but his sunrise punishment was being walled up inside the abbey. That is a long, agonizing and mind numbing way to die. For the most part the Codex Gigas follows the same historical points as a Christian version bible however since this was supposedly written by one man in one night its highly unlikely that most people will take that as the gospel. Even if he sold his soul in exchange for being able to complete the book in one night, he would still end up coming up short in the bargain. If you would like to see a close up example of the intricate lettering used for the Gigas, the Library of Congress has ALL 629 pages available to read. Take a gander at that and tell me that it's humanly possible for one person to complete that in one day. Most people assume that when they hear the title it is going to be based on the Satanic religion or praising Lucifer. If anything it is a record off things that have happened in the past but were not 100% accurately depicted in other bibles or religious texts. There are smaller “pocket versions” available but most do not have illustrations or even samples of the imagery.

Sounds interesting, but damn that's a long read.
