You need to let him get started with phonics and then let him read.

I would suggest that you should sit with him and make him read slowly slowly helping in between whenever he gets stuck somewhere.Break words and make him easy for him to relate and read.

I am not a mother so I may not be right. But I remember one of sister have difficulty in learning her lesson. Sometimes we get pissed off with her as she isa slow learner. She really takes time to learn. We make her to practise again and again and gives example, demo to understand the lesson. sometimes children learn faster when we use audio- visual aid and story telling also as well as with many kind instruction. I expect other mylotter will help you ... All the best !!

Oh, I see. This is possible. An audio-visual aid and some sort of story telling demonstrating how to read.

Father and Son Reading Time
@jembizz21 My wife is a grade one teacher and here are some practical suggestions she mention that you can implement with children of of his age, use your judgement about what is best for your child. -Read to your child every day! -Ask your child questions before, during, and after reading. -Let your child see you reading. -Look for letters while out and about and in the environment around you. -When teaching letters and letter sounds, incorporate as many senses as possible. -Read a variety of books and make a game out of guessing the genre. -Have fun rhyming! -Work on letter sounds and manipulating them within words (phonemic awareness) -Encourage your child to sound out short words (consonant, vowel, consonant). -Practice memorizing a few sight words each day. Most of all, have fun together!
