The University Student Isn't All That Smart

My younger daughter is away at university for her third year of five. I haven't heard from her in over a week. She finally texted me today and this is how the conversation went. DD: Did you know you could save heating and cooling costs of your house by having your windows and trees placed in the right spot? ME: Who are your working for? LOL DD: My geography textbook. ME: You gonna do some planting when you get home? DD: Probably not LOL ME: My parents had 2 huge spruce trees in front of the living and dining room windows. They helped keep the house cool. DD: Ahah well yeah, that blocks the sunlight in the summer and in the winter it helps warm the house because the leaves have fallen off and the sun can directly shine in. ME: No leaves on spruce/pine trees. DD: Okay well I'm not taking a tree course so I wouldn't know. ME: So there you have it. An intelligent university student who doesn't know what a spruce tree is. And for the record, they keep the cold away from the house in the winter like insulation.
