Television Shows or Computer Games?

When my daughters were still in the Elementary Age, they were fond of watching educational shows on the television. They learned proper pronunciations, differentiating things, they get math ideas and even learn many children songs and art works.
I have observed how children shows on TV influenced my daughters positively especially intellectually.
We have no computers at home during that time.
The only one we have was the VTech. It is like a computer too but for educational purposes only.
Nowadays, as I have observed, many children, especially boys don't want to spend time with television.
They want to be with the computers rather than with TVs.
They prefer computer games than educational shows on televisions.
My son is one of them.
He is very different from his sisters when it comes to studying or learning.
These computers really have positive and negative effects on children...
What do you think guys???

I feel that computers can be similar to television shows. Just like there are shows that are educational for children, there are also computer games that can be just as education and they teach kids to think ahead. They can learn problem solving skills and things like that.

@magallon I see. I've never been a fan of kids playing those kinds of games. I hope their computer time is limited at least.

@missjessicadawn Many college students have dropped from schools because of these computer or video games.

Yeah, I agree.
But i've observed that most of the children today especially here in the Philippines are hooked up in computer games that are not educational.
These are the games that are violent, like killings, conquering kingdoms or something like that.

Parents must supervise the amount of times their children spend on playing computer games .. They are very addictive and can hinder their natural ability to become productive in other aspects of life ...

@epiffanie But we can't blame the parents too because they are doing that for their children ' s future.

@magallon I think you should transition yourself of that mindset and the time and generation is changing. Video games strengthens a lot of concentration and aptitude skills as well , you can sense this by checking how keen a person has to be while making any move in games. Educational videos can just tell facts and figures , it has to be remembered but best part is building brain to make a strong aptitude that is the reason kids are very prompt in problem solving momentarily.

Yes, I know that we are in a modern age or technology age now.
These modern technologies bring both positive and negative influences to people especially to children.
I have watched my son playing these video games and I knew that they really need concentration and proper skills in playing these fighting and killing characters of the games.
I find it negative because aside from making my son addicted to it, he also lost his interest in his studies.
These computer games have also influenced his behavior.
And i find it difficult sometimes to handle him.
Reprimanding him about his behavior and his being addict to video games is difficult for me now.

I agree. That is why I don't like my nephew using his tablet anymore. He tend to be arrogant and very hard headed already. He wants to play games in his tablet all the time, until I broke his tablet and let him play outside with other kids, be dirty and be a kid.
