Another Hypocrite Climbs Aboard the Trump Clown Car

So much for conscience!

It would be the understatement of the year to say I've never been a "fan" of Ted Cruz. However, despite not agreeing with him on anything I can think of offhand I always respected that he knew what he stood for and meant what he said. As the GOP Presidential campaign went on over the past year I found myself siding with him against nominee Donald Trump as Donald did his usual dirty deeds such as retweeting an unflattering picture of Cruz's wife and actually implying that Cruz's father had been involved in the assassination of John F. Kennedy. I had to applaud him as he told the RNC crowd to "vote your conscience", for which he got soundly booed. Good for him, I thought. Well, it took awhile but today Cruz caved, he went over to the dark side and announced he will vote for Donald Trump in November. So much for him being a man of principle. So much for him putting his family ahead of his political party and ambitions!

Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump may not be the best candidates for president, but they know how to win! Now with regard to Cruz I think he is not endorsing (telling people to vote) Trump, he just announced that he will vote for him. All the GOP candidates PROMISED to vote their nominee. Keeping a promise (or pledge) is one of the good qualities of a gentleman. Cruz will run for president again for sure - - I hope you got my point.

But HOW COULD HE? What Donald did to Heidi Cruz was bad enough but when he made that allegation against Cruz's father that would have done it for sure for me. He sold his soul for sure.

@antonbunot American politics have never been THIS dirty though. It's been getting consistently and steadily worse over the past few years but it's never been the mess Donald has made it before.

Of all the candidates on both sides of the aisle, I disliked Ted Cruz the most. He made my skin crawl. He will do what he has to do to maintain a possible political career in the Republican Party. The thing I disliked most, other than his overall sleaziness, was his cramming his religion down our throats. At least Trump doesn't do that.

I can't stand it when any politician tries to cram their religion down our throats. Donald isn't in the least bit religious despite his claims to the contrary when he campaigns in the bible belt but he's promised to basically get rid of the separation of church and state with his SCOTUS appointments.

@LindaCPearson I've often said for as long as I can remember that I'd just as soon not hear a word about any politician's personal religious views. They're personal and none of my business just as MY beliefs are personal and none of the business of the government. Donald doesn't live the life of a person of faith, that's for sure, but he panders to the religious right by pretending to be religious. He chose as his running mate a man who is as far to the wacky right as one could be and that's scary to me. I don't think many people have any idea of some of the things Pence stands for, the things he's done and wanted to do as Governor of Indiana and what he did when he was on the House of Representatives. He wanted to deny HIV medicine to gays unless they agreed to undergo "therapy" to "cure" them of their sexuality!

@anniepa I don't think he's religious either, which I do consider one of his better qualifications!!!

i am so proud of the Republicans that agree with us that Mr T is a bag of trash, this one I've never liked and figured out he wouldn't bail just in case he gets to keep his job...

"Just in case" indeed. I think his political star has fallen for sure. Now both parties seem to hate him...lol!

Happens to the best of us. Although Cruz is a really by the bible kind of guy, even he went to trump. People often think that it's choosing "the lesser of two evils". There are more than two choices!

No, there really aren't more than two choices. There may be more than two names on the ballots in some states but the next POTUS will be either Hillary Clinton or Donald. A vote for one of the others is a wasted vote and will likely help the one you'd least want to actually BE President, especially if you actually look at the issues.

@anniepa Absolutely not. Many many people don't vote for third parties for the reason that it would be a "wasted vote", every single debate i have on third parties, that always gets brought up. You don't vote for the lesser of two evils, you should vote for the one you agree with most. That's the only way to get out of the bipartisan politics we have.

@poliugh We have to work with the system we have, for better or for worse, until we can change it. Third party candidates can and sometimes actually DO win in down ballot, state and local races where it's just based on the popular vote but the Presidential election is a whole different animal. Enough people voted for the on they agreed with most in 2000 to toss it to the Supreme Court who selected President George W. Bush for us despite the fact he hadn't won the popular votes. Another possible result would be nobody getting the required 270 electoral votes which would mean the House would choose our next POTUS. The only way to get rid of he two party system is to pass campaign finance reform and get the big money out of politics and then to get rid of the stupid Electoral College.
