Day 19
Proverbs 7
Proverbs 7:1 My son, keep my words, and lay up my commandments with thee.
2 Keep my commandments, and live; and my law as the apple of thine eye.
3 Bind them upon thy fingers, write them upon the table of thine heart.
4 Say unto wisdom, Thou art my sister; and call understanding thy kinswoman:
5 That they may keep thee from the strange woman, from the stranger which flatters with her words.
6 For at the window of my house I looked through my casement,
7 And beheld among the simple ones, I discerned among the youths, a young man void of understanding,
8 Passing through the street near her corner; and he went the way to her house,
9 In the twilight, in the evening, in the black and dark night:
10 And, behold, there met him a woman with the attire of a harlot, and subtil of heart.
11 (She is loud and stubborn; her feet abide not in her house:
12 Now is she without, now in the streets, and lies in wait at every corner.)
13 So she caught him, and kissed him, and with an impudent face said unto him,
14 I have peace offerings with me; this day have I payed my vows.
15 Therefore came I forth to meet thee, diligently to seek thy face, and I have found thee.
16 I have decked my bed with coverings of tapestry, with carved works, with fine linen of Egypt.
17 I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.
18 Come, let us take our fill of love until the morning: let us solace ourselves with loves.
19 For the good man is not at home, he is gone a long journey:
20 He hath taken a bag of money with him, and will come home at the day appointed.
21 With her much fair speech she caused him to yield, with the flattering of her lips she forced him.
22 He goes after her straightway, as an ox goes to the slaughter, or as a fool to the correction of the stocks;
23 Till a dart strike through his liver; as a bird hastes to the snare, and knows not that it is for his life.
24 Hearken unto me now therefore, O ye children, and attend to the words of my mouth.
25 Let not thine heart decline to her ways, go not astray in her paths.
26 For she hath cast down many wounded: yea, many strong men have been slain by her.
27 Her house is the way to hell, going down to the chambers of death.
One thing parents are good for is warning their children of the dangers of associating with people of ill repute. They want their children to use wisdom at all times when dealing with their peers and anyone else who has a ‘great’ offer for them. Prostitutes are people who have ‘great’ offers and use every means of flattery and cunning to lead people astray.
Solomon not only told his son to stay away from prostitutes, he gave his son an example of their behavior and what it would do to his life if he allowed her to lead him astray. Solomon had a lot of experience with women, having 300 wives and 700 concubines. He knew the ploys they made in order to entice a man into their bed. He didn’t want his son to be taken by a woman of bad reputation.
In today’s society prostitutes don’t just hang out on street corners, they peddle their wares in exotic dance clubs, bars, anywhere they can entice a man into their bed for a night of ‘bliss’.
As Christians, you need to be aware of Satan’s schemes and how he will use everything and everyone at his disposal to bring you down. His main objective is to destroy you and your family, and using prostitutes is a good way to weasel his way into your lives and start your destruction.
You need to heed Jesus’ warnings as well when he said how Satan would come in and destroy your life, if given a chance and what he had to offer instead.
John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. (KJV)
Peter also gave us a warning about Satan’s evil schemes.
1 Peter 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
9 Whom resist steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.
If you heed the warnings of Solomon, Jesus, and Peter, listening to the Holy Spirit who gives you discernment to stay away from anything that even looks shady, you will be able to walk away without a backward glance.
Let’s pray: Father, help me to see the warning signs when Satan is out to destroy my life. Help me walk away with the help of the Holy Spirit to guide me with your truth. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.

Amen. Indeed if we turn to Christ every time we are tempted by the devil we will be able to walk away from such temptations.
