I am WALKING my first marathon. I'm doing the half marathon, which is 13 miles. I'm so excited I walk a minimum of 3 miles EVERY day, mostly because I want to, I like walking to me its so therapeutic. Yesterday I walked 6 miles straight and I did it in 1 hour and 40 minutes...whooo hoooo! The marathon is in 12 days and I'm so excited, any pointers for getting thru the marathon?

Hello there. Sounds like you are doing all the right things. I would say though that the two days before the event that you do a bit less. Maybe enough just to stay loose. Maybe go for a two hour walk in the next couple of days but if you did six miles with no I'll effects you will be fine. Good luck with it. Now me lol. I can walk a wee bit. Couple of hundred yards and that's it. Riding a motorbike for as long as I have and as much as I do has left me with dodgy knees. I used to walk a lot. Hill walking mostly. Even ran a marathon one time about 30 years ago. Don't suppose I will ever run again.

Thank Jim for your kind words...I just completed 9 miles in 3 hours...I will take your advice and take it easy a couple of days before the marathon.

@Blockparty49 9 miles wow. I think that is awesome. The other 4 miles will not be a problem. Great stuff.

Haven't tried doing a walkathon though I love walking before and after work. Best of luck on your coming marathon.
