I was reading something today, that only confirmed what God was leading me to do. And that was to enter writing contests, as a way to get started in the business.
I was reading a testimony from a "now" seasoned author, who shared his testimony on how he got started as a writer. And what he wrote that stood out the most for me was... He started entering writing contests. To get exposure. He mentioned that he had won several, and only received a sum total of $750 in rewards.
But it was not the monetary amount that he was concerned about. It was getting exposure, and prove to potential publishers/agents that he had what it took, to attract readers.
Well... He now has a publisher and an agent. And his agent said to him that what attracted her to him, and what sold her to take him on as a client...was all the contests he had won.
So... I knew I heard God. One day someone is going to come along want to be my agent, and publish me. I just know it!
Does not God say: "not to despise the day of small beginnings?" That sky is the limit, if we are willing to start at the bottom! Because we have nowhere to go but up!!!

I posted a short story contest on my writing group's Facebook page. Someone immediately asked if I was going to enter. My problem is I don't know how to tell a story in 1800 words or less. I can't even come up with a topic. I'd like to enter, and make time to write so I meet that deadline, but I don't know where to begin.
My late father came to me in a dream showing me a newspaper with the winner of the short story contest. The name was my first given name and my birth last name. I took that as a message from my father, a sign. All I did with it is determine what my pen name will be.
Good luck to you!

I tend to be long winded too. That is why I am joining these groups, so I can grow as a writer, and learn to keep things simple. Even my poems tend to be running a marathon, they're so long! LOL
