Anyone use Duolingo?

I starting using this service to teach myself Spanish a couple of months ago. It seems to be working well except that, of course, I don’t have anyone to speak with and practice my halting Spanish with. I can hear my feo acento. Little I can do but keep trying. And if that weren’t enough, I started the German course. I speak a little and was able to test out a bit, but have to learn grammar and expand vocabulary. And just because I’m curious and maybe my eyes are bigger than my tummy, I started the Esperanto course. I spend about an hour a day on the languages. I’ve missed one day in about three months. In Spanish, I’m on level 10. In German, I’m on level 9 and in Esperanto, I’m on level 7. Anyone else using Duolingo? What are you experiences with it?

They have Greek in beta phase for English speakers. I'm not sure what the ramifications of that are. There may be a few bugs. But there are areas for feedback and discussion. And the price is right. Let me know if this works for you. Best of luck.

@toniganzon A took French in high school and college. It's one language I'll get back once I'm done with the one I'm studying now.

@silvermist But you understood what I wrote. At least I wrote it close enough to what I intended. I have no idea what the top level is. I could be 50. I'll see when I get there... eventually.

Not familiar with it, but will certainly try this. To help with Spanish, consider watching the Spanish news.

Good luck with it! I've tried listening to Spanish radio in the car. Not quite there yet.

I haven't tried it. But I learn how to speak Russian, Tajik and Basic Chinese through communicating with the local people.

I've never used it, I think I would find it confusing to learn 3 languages at once. Are you over your pneumonia now?

I think I might have bitten off more than I can chew with trying three languages at once. I won't do that again. There's not a whole lot of confusion, frankly. I think maybe once (...if) I'm through with all of that, I might start up with the French I studied in school. But that's a long way off. I speak a little German because of family. I speak a little Spanish because of where I live. I speak absolutely no Esperanto but I've been told it's quite easy. The grammar is a cinch. As for the pneumonia, I'm mostly over it. I'm just tired. I still sleep a lot. And I cough a bit. But other than being pretty useless, I'm back to normal.

I've never heard of it until now. I could stand to brush up on my German. I've forgotten a lot of it.

The price is right. It's free. I believe there's a phone app, but I don't know how it works.

Yes, I liked the varied responses. Of course, I end up translating when it says "type what you hear."

No I have not tired it. I heard learning two languages like you are doing helps you learn a language quick. Keep up the good work.
