This upcoming weekend is my colleges homecoming/family weekend. We don't have a football team so are homecoming is for soccer instead. I am an office assistant for the Alumni House which are the ones that put homecoming together, so these past two weeks have been crazy. I will be working Friday afternoon & Saturday morning to afternoon this weekend which I normally never work. I will be in charge of running the house that afternoon and morning while the rest of them are off managing other things like the class reunions being held, the alumni tent at the game, etc. It is a pretty easy thing to do since all I do is sit around the house & wait for Alumni members or families to come in. I pass out the tailgate passes for those who have registered, sale homecoming shirts, make name tags, pass out the Alumni packets, and pass out folders with the weekends schedule on it and has other things like a map of campus and normally a coupon for Wily's or the bookstore. It is going to be busy, but worth it for the extra hours on my check.

The University of Florida (where I went to college, and where I currently live down the street from) will be having their homecoming on October 14-16. Since I live by the university, I have college friends coming into town from all over the country that weekend. Because it is a home football game for the Gators, every hotel within 30 miles is sold out. Needless to say, I have a bunch of people who will be crashing at my house for the weekend. Should be fun.

That is the weekend that the town holds it's Woolly Worm Festival. It brings up more traffic than homecoming weekend does and people come from all over to watch these little worms race.

I have met a lot of them already. I enjoy meeting them because there is so many and they have all done so many different things with their lives. We had an alumni member, Hakim Bellamy, as the guest speaker for convocation this year and he majored in biology and minored in English with a communications emphasis and was a soccer player. He was applying to med school when he decided he didn't want to do that with his life and ended up getting his Master's in communications. He has been on 2 national poetry slam team, a national and regional Poetry Slam Champion and holds three consecutive collegiate poetry slam titles. He is also the founder & president of Beyond Poetry LLC. The thing I found the most interesting is that he has personally given a book of his poems to the Dalai Lama. He now writes and does public speaking about his time at the college and how big of an impact the professors and college had on his life. Hearing his store and others from the college gives me the hope that I'm not just wasting my money here and that I can achieve so much in life.

@Happy2BeMe It is an there are tons of others from the college that have done things just as great. I also learned that two people from my home town went and graduated from here and one of them I have seen and spoke to multiple times & never knew she went here. She actually owns her own photography business now.
