Do you still remember at what age did you teach your child to eat alone especially by using spoon and fork or maybe chopsticks as well? How did you train your child to eat alone with the utensils? Did your child listen on how to hold the spoon and fork or chopsticks properly? When did your child learn as well to eat properly without scattering the food? Now that my kid is 2 years old I am teaching her on how to eat alone and hold the utensils properly, of course it is really hard especially that she still insists to hold the spoon and fork the way that she wants it, holding those utensils like a murderer. Although there are times that she is following it. It is just really hard to eat with rice as it is scattering, still hoping that I can give her the sticky rice so that it won’t scattered all over her place. Now that she is learning she has the initiative to hold the spoon and fork on her own. To begin with she is independent thinker who is strong enough to think ways on her own.

I would feed my babies. I put a spoon in their hands and showed them how to use it. Then I fed them and they sometimes used the spoon. I started waiting when they were eating and gave them a chance to feed themselves. Every day I fed them less and let them eat longer. Once they ate an entire meal, I never fed them again. I knew they could do it for themselves.

How old when you started it? How old as well when they are initiating doing it and can eat properly?

@Metatronik Every kid is different. I started with rice cereal when a few months old. After they ate rice cereal with no problems, I added applesauce to the diet. Every few weeks, I would add something new until they were eating some of everything.
