Back in the 1960s four guys named Davy, Mickey, Peter and Mike cause a real sensation on TV when they became The Monkees. At first most everyone thought this was just a group put together for the sake of a TV show. However as their ratings went up and they gathered hundreds of fans especially girls who couldn’t get enough of them it was time for the guys to prove they were a real genuine band. Finally they got their chance when their first single “Last Train to Clarksville” got on the Billboard Top 40 chart. I have always enjoyed their music and when I listen to it today many of their songs just make me smile and bring great memories. “Last Train to Clarksville” was written by the same songwriting team who wrote The Monkees theme song, Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart. Another well-known hit by The Monkees also written by them is “(I’m Not Your) Stepping Stone”. There were other songs by this fantastic group that were written by popular songwriters like “I’m a Believer” and “A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You” by Neil Diamond and “Daydream Believer” by husband and wife team Gerry Goffin and Carole King. By the time The Monkees released their third album they had taken over complete creative control of their music including songwriting. Altogether they released seven studio albums but songs like their first hit “Last Train to Clarksville” remain among the most memorable. The song hit the charts on September 24, 1966. http://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/last-train-to-clarksville-gives-the-made-for-tv-monkees-a-real-life-pop-hit

I enjoyed watching old episodes of The Monkees when I was a kid. My mom loved them when she was a young girl in the 60's .
