Before you get all down on me, this title did not come from me. But why would anyone say such a thing? And why would Americans be considered stupid?
This all comes from questions Americans are asked on the street. Questions asked by Jay Leno for his Jay Walking segment when he was on the Tonight Show and people on other shows that stop Americans on the street and ask them questions.
Questions like, “Who is the Vice-President of the United States?” “When do we vote for the President of the United States?” (Second Tuesday of November every four years.)
For an alien to become a citizen of the United States then need to answer these question and others that are harder such as:
How many stars are there on the American Flag?
What do the represent?
How many strips are there on the American Flag?
What do they represent?
What are the three branches of the United States government?
How many Chief Justices are there on the United States Supreme Court?
These a just a few of the question that are on the United States Citizenship Test that most Americans cannot answer.
To see some of the crazy answers Americans gave for these questions go to YouTube and type in, “Americans are stupid and proud of it.”
By the way, that is where I got the title.
So who fault is it that American do not know the answers to these questions? And do you think they are important questions to know the answers to? Why or why not?

As a citizen of a country, they should know the answers on those questions just to be prepared when someone will ask them. Of course, I am not telling they are stupid but they just ignore those basic questions that makes them citizen of that country. What will others say if they here that they don't know the answer on those questions. Only my opinion.

I don't know if they are proud of it, or just don't care. We learn these things in school, but like a lot of things we learn in school, as soon as we go into the realm of the "real world", much of it goes out the door. I think the attitude is someone else will take care of things. They think they won't be heard and their vote will not make a difference. If they don't give a hoot, then surely they would care less about the government and how it works. These are basic questions that we all should all really now.

@RichardMeister I can understand that blank moment in front of the camera - but yah, how that happen over the same questions asked to many people. Anyone who went to school knew the answers at one time, but they forgot (a lot of people hate what the government does, but have no interest in the whole process of the system).

@much2say That's true. It is funny that many people hate what the government does but don't want to even vote to change laws or to put who they want in the Whitehouse (even though this time no one is thrilled about whoever is going to end up in the Whitehouse).

We should all know the answers to these questions but if you watch any of these on YouTube there are other questions they ask that are pretty simple and people don't know the answers to them, either. There is one thing that can be taken into consideration and that is when someone thrushes a microphone in you face and asks you a question you tend to go "lame brained." But some simple questions should be easy to overcome that.

I certainly do think that they are important and that there should perhaps be a test taken before one can vote. I think that the title is right on target.

These are questions we should certainly know the answers to before voting.

No..When one is asking for citizenship of a Country he is supposed to know the minimum things. Then what is the use of being a citizen?. If I do not answer or at least know how many spokes to the wheel at the center of the Indian Flag. I should be able to answer properly.
