There are only a handful of taboos left in the deck of perversion and cannibalism happens to be one of them. When I saw the listing for this I had no idea what the plot was but I caught on quickly enough. Released in 2013 it must have been real sleeper because I don't remember hearing the name or any whispers about the plot. Before you dismiss this as some country bumpkin fable designed to discourage interlopers, cannibalism has existed for hundreds of years.
In this movie its from a religious and generational slant that it occurs. Something that's used to ask for a blessing, a final goodbye or protection. Given that the Parker family has lived on the mountain so long you can expect the number of missing people to cause some concern and this is where the movie gets a little hokey. You would think that someone at some point would start tossing the bones and what not into a pigpen. But that's a personal quirk.
The cast are relatively unknown by name but when you see them you know you have seen them in other movies. The biggest shocker was Kelly McGillis; remember that hot body from Top Gun? Good because you won't recognize her in this. I watched the whole thing and wondered where the hell she appeared; I had to pull up the credits on IMDB to see which character she played.
All in all this is a decent crossover piece. You get some drama before it goes into the blood and guts. There's a strong backstory to it and as mentioned, it's not a fabrication. These types of sacrifices happened in the past (regardless of whether they consumed the flesh or not) and I am sure that somewhere its still taking place today. It has extremely realistic scenes involving violence however I can't recall a single swear word being uttered.
Best Line: “Did you eat my daughter?”

Argghhhh. Think I'll pass. I also remember Kelly McGillis from Witness, with Harrison Ford. I guess she's a pretty good actress for you not to realize which one she was!
