Favorite Acid Jazz Bands #1 - Brooklyn Funk Essentials

And yet another series comes to an end. #1 in my Favorite Acid Jazz Bands series is Brooklyn Funk Essentials. Led by bassist Lati Kronlund, Brooklyn Funk Essentials formed in 1993 (in Brooklyn, naturally.) Much like Groove Collective, BFE is a collective of like-minded musicians, vocalists, and poets, making jazz music that can contain everything from instrumental jazz to vocals to spoken word. Their 1995 album Cool and Steady and Easy is hands down the best acid jazz album I've ever owned. From that CD, I've linked to "The Revolution was Postponed Because of Rain," a hilarious, jazzy, spoken word piece about a group of militant revolutionist's that keep finding reasons NOT to start the revolution. Just one reason Brooklyn Funk Essentials are my favorite acid jazz band. That, and the fact that when I saw them, tickets were only eight bucks. You can't beat an eight dollar show by a quality band.

I have to ask, since you like the other song so much, do you think this is sort of a parody of or an answer to "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised"?

I have actually wondered about that. If it is, it's a funny answer.

@teamfreak16 -- absolutely, ,especially the part about the women wanting to watch the Super Bowl.

That's why I love the small venues.

I knew one guy that thought they were a funk band. Was a bit shocked when he heard them.

You must have mentioned them before, as I am sure I have heard of them, but not that track
