Ban-ki-Moon who is the present Secretary General of U.N will be completing his term by the end of 2016 and a new Secretary Genral has to be selected. Mr. Ban Ki Moon was Secretary General for the two terms.
The job of Secretary General will be generally rotated among the regions. Asia, Africa, Europe, and Latin America have held the post of Secretary General. So far East European Nations and Russia had never held the post. Further, the U.N has had never a woman Secretary-General so far. About 50 Nations are showing interest in electing a woman U.N Secretary General.
But, it is the name of former Prime Minister of Portugal Mr. Antonia Gluterres whose name has been voted favorably for the post of U.N. Secretary General. and topped in all the six polls even being a man from Western Europe.

I hope the right person - the best person for the job gets it.
If the right person is a woman that's fine.
But if countries vote for a woman just because s woman has never held the position then that's wrong.
Same as if an Eastern European gets it just because it would be a first is wrong to.
I am a cynic.
How a out an Eastern European Woman.
