It seems apt to respond to the wonderful @Jessicalynnt ‘s latest poetry challenge on National Poetry Day, and this time the five words give a distinct colour theme to the project with ‘yellow, orange, red, brown, green.’
Poem - A New Way To Eat
Avoiding the obvious peas are green
While custard is brown ….
Oh no, I used gravy on the cakes again!
No way to prevent this being seen
My MasterChef chances will go down
Unless there is some way to explain
My mistakes away, as a new kind of fusion,
Like where they mix Italian and Chinese
That’ll hide my confusion
And I’ll serve green sprouts instead of cheese.
If they ask for orange I’ll serve a pear,
It’ll be the biggest idea since Nouvelle Cuisine
It’ll be such an audacious dare
Nothing you get will be what was seen
On the menu, so it’ll be like food roulette
You ask for chicken – you just get bread
You want white sauce but I’ll give you red
It might have nuts, or it might not at all
And you still get charged the price of your caviar
Though I’ll get you a peperoni from the local pizza car
You never get what you are asking for
Beans on toast instead of lobster thermadore.
It’ll make dining out dangerous, exciting and fun
Yes I know you asked for quail’s eggs and truffles Sir
We are just giving the tapioca a nice long stir
And your pickled egg surprise is nearly done.
You’ll never guess what you will get to eat
I’m sure the cold porridge will taste a treat
Enjoy your turnips in treacle – bon appetite!

Very nice, and got me to chuckle, which considering this week is, rare.

Loved this. Made my chuckle. I haven't been to a restaurant in ages so I don't know what is happening out there but I do know that someone went to a restaurant here in Riga serving traditional Latvian food. He ordered and in front of him was a huge mound of sauteed sauerkraut which Latvians usually enjoy and on top of it sat a huge smoked pork hock. He was in shock. I mean yes, people here enjoy things like that but not when it is served like that. You have some nice pieces. So you can imagine his reaction to his one trip out.
