There's a dual "girl song" series going on right now. The idea was originated by @teamfreak16 and I had so many songs pop into my mind when I saw his first post that I just had to jump on the bandwagon. Here's the next song on my countdown. #5: Goodbye Girl - Squeeze Quick note: NOT THAT SAPPY DAVID GATES SONG! I've mentioned this before, but it bears repeating: Squeeze may well be the most grossly underrated band in history. Their quirky pop songs influenced acts like They Might Be Giants and Barenaked Ladies (either directly or indirectly), and their classic "Tempted" should've been the biggest hit in US history. Okay, that's my skewered, highly biased opinion. Their greatest hits album, Singles 45s and Under, is one of my all-time favorite compilations. And there's this terrific song (again, not that sappy song from the film The Goodbye Girl, and for the record, that was called "THE Goodbye Girl," not "Goodbye Girl"). Wowza. They recorded this three different times. There's a version where the last verse says, "My wife has moved to Jersey" and a version that says, "My wife has moved to Boston." I don't know why they did that (except maybe to sell copies in Jersey and Boston ). I just know that I love the stuffing out of this song. Goodbye Girl Written by Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook Recorded by Squeeze From Cool For Cats, 1978 The "Jersey" version:

I did think you were going with David Gates. Squeeze is much more enjoyable.

(UK) Squeeze is a classic band from the new wave era. Great pick.
