The falling leaves that pile up on our garden or on our yard create a haven for other animals and insects. Some species of spiders and insects take refuge on these drying garden plants. Other species leave behind eggs, larvae, or pupae on or within plants to carry on the line. Many kinds of birds need old stems, along with those dried leaves to construct their nests. The dried plant material that the birds don’t take will serve as fertilizers for our growing plants. Decaying plants and animal matter are snails and slugs' favorite food. Let us create a nature-friendly garden. Leave these dried and decaying leaves and plants for other God's creations needs. Let us help wildlife to survive in our yard. Photo credit: wisegeek.com

Yes, just leave those leaves gathered for them to dry and decompose and form part of the fertilized soil .

@magallon We used to do that too . In fact , my mother-in-law would , at the backyard so the mosquitoes will go away , But for the neighborhood , we don't like that because it destroys the ozone layer . We just let it dry at the side .

When I was in the province, I sweep all of those dry leaves, pile them and burn. I don't want seeing them scattered in front of our house.

If only I could compose them into a fertilizer, Grandma told me something that once.

I think you can just dig a hole and put them all in it. Once the hole is filled up, you can cover it with soil. Some people mix it with dried animal manure like cow or carabao manure. That's what I know...

Good idea. Sometimes other people neglected other creatures living in earth. They needs our attention too.
