Pelican in the Pond

This was a bit of a surprise for me because I usually don't see pelicans in the park itself, just on the lake. I'm not even sure there is anything in the pond that it would like to eat, other than maybe a frog or turtle. But, it was the closest I've ever been able to get to one of these.

But there's no fish in that pond (which is why it was so strange to see it).

@JohnRoberts I think he might have been after turtles. There are quite a few of those in that pond and he did keep ducking his head in the water in search of something.

To tell you the truth, I was a little disappointed it was a pelican. We usually get swans flying over/stopping this time of year and, when I saw a big white bird swimming in the pond, I thought it was one of those.

You certainly live near a lake with interesting bird life.

We're about 10 minutes away from one of the largest marshes in the world (Horicon Marsh). It attracts hundreds of different bird species throughout the year and we get some of the overflow. One of these days, I do plan on going there to shoot some photos too. But, I want to take the kids with and have to wait for my daughter's broken foot to heal first.
