The mail carrier was being lazy! He didn't want to accept my packages to be mailed, what?!

During the 3 day weekend, I made some small sales on Mercari & Poshmark. I typically drop the packages at my local post office but since I didn't have to go anywhere yet - I figured I'd send the packages with my mail carrier like I do sometimes. Today, my usual mail carrier lady wasn't working and it was a man. I went outside - greeted him nicely and asked if he can scan my packages to ship. He looked at me not willingly. So, I told him he didn't have to scan it right at the moment (like they normally do), but to drop it off at the branch when he gets there. He responded, sure but I have a lot of packages/letters already. I don't know the procedure but if people have mail.... or stuff to ship (that is pre-paid) aren't you supposed to accept it? Isn't that your job though? That was a little frustrating/annoying! I am sure today many people had letters, things to ship as it was a holiday yesterday.

Welcome to the new America, where laziness and apathy abound! Don't you know that's our new way of life now? And the postman, he's a union employee, so it would be nearly impossible to fire him for non-performance of his job! I was raised with a very strong work ethic, and it just breaks my heart to see the lack of effort or care in so many workers these days. I think all these people forget what it took to make America great...hard work, sweat and determination to succeed at all costs. We need that mentality back again in our nation.

Yeah!~ Preach it man!~ That's the attitude!~ Lol!~ I think at the end of the day it's a person's attitude that determines the altitude he can reach and in this case...

Doesn't he want job security though? If he doesn't take these packages... wheres the work for him! They were actually cutting down employees at the sorting plant where I normally go (it's the main area)

@infatuatedbby I find that interesting. Employees of the postal service belong to a very strong federal union, where it is next to impossible to fire workers. That's job security enough for them, just knowing they could be as lazy as they want to be and can't/won't get fired!

Geez, that's an unprofessional response from him! I mean, if it was against policy or something, he should have said so . . . but if it's just about him having another thing to do, well that's just laziness! Then again, I've known some grumpy mail carriers through work. Some were super sensitive and got huffy puffy over everything!!

@infatuatedbby So kudos to your regular mail lady who has the right attitude! Maybe the mail guy was thinking this wasn't his normal route (or maybe he was new?), so he shouldn't have to take on more than he could handle . . . but hey, that is his job - and that's just a lazy excuse which he shouldn't even be saying. A mail carrier is sort of supposed to be the silent neighborhood super hero!

@much2say I think he doesn't care because it isn't his normal route and he won't see me again! Though I did come across him one time last month.

I wasn't waiting for him to come, but heard the mail truck. The mail truck is SO loud you can hear it at any room in the house lol. If he could tell me a reason, I would gladly go drop it off myself (99% of the time I have) but the mail carrier (the regular lady) sees me and says you know we can take it too! But yeah I bet he was still on vacation mode.

I don't want to make it a hassle, but he did take it. But still, I don't know what his problem is. It's his job to accept packages/letters/etc. I think he may be lazy to haul it back when he comes back to the location to unload.

@XinfulThotz It depends on the situation, but for this if he was a regular mail carrier in the area then maybe. But he isn't (thankfully)

Please do complain or it will be a problem for the next person. It would teach him a lesson not to slouch on his job.

He isn't my regular mail carrier so I don't know him so I won't. But if he was my regular carrier - I would definitely provide feedback.

Since our little rural mail person works totally different from a big city mail person I am not sure. Heck, we can leave a package in the box with the appropriate amount of money and she will take care of it. If we need stamps she will bring them.

Postal employees can act however they want, because they know it's near impossible to fire them.

That's strange for him to behave like that. Perhaps today he was not in the mood? Here when we wanted to go to the post office to send package or mails. There must be a post office to accept it. As sometimes customers need to buy the stamps, envelopes, packing, balance the mails and package etc. The post officer needs to handle all of it.

I guess at the end of the day it matters not which nation we hail from, I'm sure that everyone can agree that laziness is a disease. My wife has got more deliveries nowadays whereas I'm more into COD, she mostly if not always has to send all the parcels to the courier service office because the place we stay is out of the way ( yeah right, just a lame excuse ) and they can never give us an exact time when they will come to pick up our stuff. We can't wait for them forever so we just gotta send it ourselves. The only thing is sometimes the packages are very heavy as mostly are children's books. It could go up to more than 10KG sometimes even more than 20KG so I would have to help her load it into the car. I used to deliver it together with her but since I started working...so yeah....
