Day 36
Proverbs 10:31
Proverbs 10:31 The mouth of the just brings forth wisdom: but the froward tongue shall be cut out.
32 The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable: but the mouth of the wicked speaks frowardness.
Froward means perverse or fraud. (From Strong’s Hebrew)
Everyone likes to be around people who display wisdom and shun people who are fraudulent in what they say and do.
As king, Solomon met all kinds of people daily. He knew those who were sincere and upright in their words and actions. He also knew those who were fraudulent and cunning in everything they did.
I’m certain you can think of at least one person who is cunning and fraudulent in everything they do, untrustworthy in word and action. They might even be members of your household.
Not all Christians were trustworthy before they accepted Jesus as Savior and Lord. Paul showed that before some accepted Jesus they displayed the worst part of humanity, doing everything they could to get what they could from the people they met.
1 Corinthians 6:9 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,
10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.
11 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God. (KJV)
As Christians we are to walk in truth and love for all people, putting off the old nature with its lies and cunning ways, and putting on the new man, found in the nature of Jesus Christ.
Ephesians 4:20 But ye have not so learned Christ;
21 If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus:
22 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;
23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;
24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
25 Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbor: for we are members one of another.
Changing who you were before you became Christians is not an easy task. Satan knows it and does everything he can to keep you chained to the past. However, with perseverance you can put off the old nature and take on the nature of Jesus Christ.
Let’s pray: Father, help me to shed the old man daily, so that Satan will not have anything to come against me with. Help me persevere in my walk with the Lord Jesus Christ, displaying the new nature found only in him. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
