Girls have taken over! @FourWalls and I are both doing series' about "Girl" songs, and have yet to match. That's a lot of girls! I'm at #4 in my series, and that distinction goes to a band that placed highly in my recent Underrated Bands countdown: The House of Love and their song "The Girl with the Loneliest Eyes." Led by vocalist/guitarist Guy Chadwick, The House of Love formed in 1986, and, after a lengthy hiatus, are still at it (with original lead guitarist Terry Bickers, who had left to form the underrated Levitation, back in the fold.) From the 1992 album Babe Rainbow, "The Girl with the Loneliest Eyes" is a pretty little number that was even released as a single. Unfortunately, I found no evidence of any chart action whatsoever. What happened? Grunge happened. As the All Music Guide put it, "The Girl with the Loneliest Eyes" simply couldn't compete with the likes of Pearl Jam. No worries. The song gets some love here in my series. I'm sure Guy Chadwick would have preferred record sales, but #4 is the best I can do. Enjoy!

Yep, some music it really helped like punk and other music it hurt. That is why I laugh when people say everyone can be rich materialistically. No you cannot or no would be rich. Cool relaxing song. This music balances out my music well. lol

I've always liked these guys. It's about as far from punk as it gets, though.

Once again your musical knowledge impresses me. "Girl" songs = songs with the word "girl" in them?

I detected some 80s sound that morphed into early to mid 90s alternative pop and you are correct: grunge killed what was left of that sound for the most part.

Yeah, grunge just kind of stomped all over everything.
