Adam Rubin reports the news on Thursday New York Mets manager Terry Collins is likely to walk away from managing in the Major League Baseball level since he is concerned about his ability to manage a baseball team for a period of 162 games. Collins, 67, has been the manager of the Mets since the 2011 Major League Baseball season after he succeed Jerry Manuel at the end of the 2010 baseball season. The Mets have made the playoffs in the last two seasons but they have not been able to win a World Series title under the leadership of Collins. Collins will manage the Mets in the 2017 Major League Baseball season but he is not sure if he has the desire to have his contract renewed by Mets general manager Sandy Alderson at the end of the next baseball season. I do not blame Collins for walking away from managing in the Major Leagues after the 2017 baseball season since he has stated he wants to spend more time with his family after his days in the Major Leagues have come to an end.

I'm glad he's making that decision. I feel that'll take a lot of the pressure off of him. Consider how Mike Hargrove managed the Cleveland Indians to the postseason five consecutive years (including two World Series appearances), and they fired him for not being able to "win the big one."

I know what you mean. It happened to the late Casey Stengel when managed the Yankees and the late Sparky Anderson when he managed the Reds.

@Deepizzaguy -- I think there was something going on in the Reds' front office back then. They also let Pete Rose walk away about the same time. Of course, that pales in comparison to what's going on there now, with them keeping a woefully inept manager and trading away their good players....

@FourWalls That is very true that some sports owners do not know how to run a winning baseball team.

Considering his age, Collins has spent a lifetime in the game and it's time to retire.

There is a time to walk away from a sports management job and let the young kids take over.
