Do you manage your meds.Do you throw out when they are expired or hang on to them.Toss out the old meds Lot of us hate to toss them out.It costs us a lot of money. Also mix up can cause severe problems. Mostly the elders as they do hang on to the old med. They mix it up and cause severe illness. Not just the old but the young also. many patients do not speak up,why they are taking the med. We go to the pharmacy and get our prescription and never ask why am I taking this.Yes,they do explain it to you.But do you remember? People hate to read the many papers about the drug that you use. Most of us do not understand.So why do you not ask? We have so many mix up in this situation. Do you toss out the old med?Do you know the reason your taking this. Do you forget and not sure.Get help if you do.Ask your VNA nurse they will get you organized. The photo is mine

I should probably do a better job. I don't throw mine away, for instance.

@amadeo - I'm pretty lax about it.

Actually, I have a bottle in my handbag that I have been meaning to give to the pharmacy... out of date!

I'm lucky in that I don't need any meds. My husband does, but he uses them as required so they don't build up.

My pharmacist reviews my prescriptions every year to make sure I am still taking them and even what time of the day I am taking them. Some meds need to be taken at bedtime. I have a pill case and set it up every morning and I make sure I take them when I'm supposed too. The prescriptions are renewed by phone so I never run out or forget. The only meds i ever toss out (return to the pharmacy and they get rid of them - not allowed to throw them away) are the extra meds given after surgery that I didn't need. I hate taking pain pills...

I do notice the expiry dates. Sometimes, when the doctor prescribe medicine and I'm highly confused or have some trust issues, I DO ask the chemist about the med details. Luckily the chemist shop is somewhere where we are being going from a long long years.. So we can trust then completely. My mom and sister are "health conscious" so they know every kind of description about the medicine..haha
