Human Trafficking - Over 27,000,000 Slaves in the World Today

While walking in Laguna Beach with friends this morning, I encountered a group of demonstrators from a non-profit called A21 who are trying to bring attention to the fact that human trafficking has resulted in the enslavement of over 27,000,000 people in the world today.
One of the women I was walking with joined the Peace Corp at age 62 and spent nearly three years in Ukraine talking to young women and their families about the dangers of phony "recruiters" who come looking for girls to work as nannies ... but they really end up being forced to work in brothels around the world. Young men are often forced to do manual labor on farms and in mines or other dangerous occupations. Even children sometimes end up as slaves.
My friend still gives talks about human trafficking to new Peace Corp recruits and other organizations to let people know more about what is going on in the world.
The video below shows the demonstration today in Laguna Beach. It was one of over 200 demonstrations held in 40 different countries today.

@crazyhorseladycx - You're right. People need to understand how wrong this is, and that will also take education.

@crazyhorseladycx - It is going to take governments around the world who are willing to stand up to the human traffickers.

The number of slaves in this world is staggering...that's higher than the entire population of many countries!

@DeborahDiane Us humans are a pretty disgusting species of animal for allowing something like this to happen to our own kind. Maybe God should just wipe us off the map and bring the dinosaurs back. They were probably more civilized than we are!

@DeborahDiane Without intending to start an ugly debate here, the same can be said for the people who vote for democrats...the mentally ill, convicts, felons, etc.
Listen, I'm a republican, but there's no way in hell I'm voting for Trump! lol

@moffittjc - Ironically, that is the reason why a paranoid schizophrenic relative of mine says he is planning to vote for Trump ... so Trump can start a nuclear war and wipe humans off the face of the earth. Unfortunately, even the mentally ill can vote ... and I think a disproportionate of them are voting for Trump.

Isn't it a disgrace? How could this be happening in the world today? It seems we are getting no where fast when it comes to fixing this mess.

@PatZAnthony 0 It is very sad that so many governments around the world do nothing to stop this. If they stood up to stop human trafficking, it could be nearly eliminated within a year. Too many government officials must be involved.

@jaboUK - I agree that it is hard to imagine there are 27 million slaves in the world today. What a sad situation for some many poor people ... especially young women.

It's very sad. 98% of traffickers are never caught.

@DianneN - Yes, I was shocked, too, when I heard the statistics for human slavery. What a disgrace!
