Why is the Voting for President and Vice President of the US a package deal?

In many countries the voting for President and Vice President is Separate. This gives the voters a customized vote for the President-Vice President package the way they wanted. Because of this system The president and Vice President of my country are from separate parties. I am kind of wondering Why Americans are not allowed to vote for a Vice president? If you like a President but you don't like his or her running mate you cannot vote for the Vice President of the separate party. From what I experienced, A President and a Vice president from opposing parties can actually work together with no conflicts.

Not a lot of countries have a vice-president. In Europe, there is only one, Bulgaria, and I think that it is also a package, and that you vote for both the president and the vice-president. It is usually another politician who plays the role of a vice-president if needed in the other countries, and in this case they are not necessarily of the same party. In France it is the president of the Senate : he is elected by other senators, and senators are elected by other elected people, not by any citizen...

It apparently used to be that the U.S. only voted for a president. The vice president was the person who lost the presidential election. Imagine either Clinton or Trump having to cope with the other candidate as their vice nowadays!

That sounded like the most interesting Reality show in the world. It is like making the Bitter First runner live with the winner.

@CaptAlbertWhisker Well, it would be interesting if we didn't have to live on the same planet as them!

I think it has something to do with party in Power. If you are a democrat and your vice President is republican, You will be in fear your Vice president will try to sabotage you. Also look at how Duterte fans accuses Leni of trying to dethrone him when she is doing nothing against him.

@SIMPLYD it would have been fun to see tension though. that would have been great tv. In our country's case there is no drama between Duterte and Robredo, Their fans just pit them

@CaptAlbertWhisker my homeland is the US. Here in Latvia the president is elected by the congress here not the people and there is no vice president.
