Ashley Varela reports the news on Sunday New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said in a conversation with New York Daily News reporter John Harper he is rooting for the Chicago Cubs and Cleveland Indians to make it to the 2016 World Series. Cashman traded away his left handed relief pitcher Aroldis Chapman to the Chicago Cubs before the Major League Baseball trade deadline in exchange for the Cubs minor league players so he can build up the Yankees franchise in the near future. Andrew Miller was traded to the Cleveland Indians during the same period in exchange for some of the Indians minor league players in return so the franchise could rebuild for the near future. The Indians have a 2-0 lead over the Toronto Blue Jays in the American League Championship series due to the effective relief pitching of Miller during the playoffs. The Cubs have a 1-0 lead over the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Championship Series thanks to the great relief pitching of Chapman during the playoffs as well. Cashman believes that he made the right decision trading away two of his best relief pitchers to the teams that are currently in the playoffs since he is counting on the minor league players from the Indians and Cubs to become future Yankees playing stars in the near future. Time will tell if Cashman made the right call in the near future or not.

Not only did Cashman trade Miller and Chapman but also Beltran and received a boatload of prospects in return. Plus A-Rod and Texeira retiring lowers payroll. He did a good job in starting to rebuild the Yanks.
