Is it right to continue hating a person even though the negative effect is on us

Many a times, we develop a strange negative feeling or a Hatred towards a particular person., The person may be with the family or anyone outside., But when we continue to hate him, we are actually bringing back negative feelings and hurting ourselves.,
How far is it correct to continue to hate a person.,

As I was reading this i am thinking that I feel that way sometimes.I mean it's normal to feel that way sometimes but we have to determine why we feel that way over that person.Is it because of jealousy or something deeper.I ask myself why i feel that way too so that I would know if it's just me or the other way around.
