Do you teach your children to live frugal life?

My parents often told me to live frugally. They taught me to save some of my pocket money when I was a kid. Now, sometimes I ask my young relatives to live frugal life. At school, I suggest my students to do so. How about you? Do you get your children used to live frugally? Image taken from pixabay

There really isn't any other way to do it. My parents never bothered teaching me about managing money. Figuring it out on my own hasn't been fun, so I'm making sure that our kids don't have to worry about that problem.

@Ayuriny They could, but I'm not going to neglect that part of their education like my parents did. My kids are already learning how to manage their money. Even the 2-year-old knows the difference between the 'spend' and 'save' slots in her piggy bank, and how to tell if she has enough to buy a treat.

Ok. I'm sure your kids can learn by themselves to manage their money, too.

Learning the hard way is never fun I know many people my age who have mountains of debt because they never learned to manage money. I havent got a big bank balance but I have no debt.

I brought up much children this way and they are both doing well financially in their lives. They do not love beyond their means and they both have large saving accounts. I went through a divorce after many years of marriage and pretty much lost everything and had to start over so I am doing better now. I know how to stretch my money and get the most out of it.

You're a successful mom, I guess. You can raise your children accordingly and the result is that they live well financially, and even have large savings. You did it, L_B.

It is a good thing to teach children the proper way of living. They will carry it until they grow old. Inculcating in their young mind the beauty of simple living with produce a ripple effect. To answer your question, it is a yes. I teach my students to live frugally as much as I can.

Yes. Children need to learn discipline concerning spending and the value of saving.

That's true. But I notice some parents pamper their children by giving them lots of pocket money and fulfil everything they want. I wonder if they realize how important of living frugally is.

@Ayuriny It's now a perpetual issues. Parents who were indulged are now indulging their kids and a bad cycle continues.

You're great! It's ok if currently you don't have one to teach, but at least you can be the model for others surrounding you.

We should live within our income but are also entitled to some splurging at times. During all my years working, I have saved every year and that gives a comfortable feeling and security - siva

Being Scottish its in our blood to be frugal. We depart the womb already having a frugal imprint. Our kids know. Just like we knew. It needs no teaching from us.
