Josh Alper reports the news on Tuesday Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin has ruled out of playing football next Sunday his starting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger next Sunday when the Steelers host the New England Patriots at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh.
Roethlisberger had surgery on his knee on Monday and Tomlin has decided to sit him out for the game against the Patriots.
Roethlisberger injured his knee last Sunday during the Steelers 30-15 loss to the Miami Dolphins.
Landry Jones who is the backup quarterback of the Steelers will start against the Patriots next Sunday while former Tennessee Titans quarterback Zack Mettenberger will be the backup quarterback behind Jones.
Since the Steelers have a bye week after the Patriots game, it is possible that Roethlisberger will be able to make his next scheduled start versus the Baltimore Ravens in Baltimore Maryland if he has fully recovered from his knee injury.

What a bummer as that was a marquee match up with Ben and Brady.
