Happy karva chauth!!

Today in India we are celebrating karva chauth. For my friends who does not know about it, it is a one-day festival celebrated by Hindu women in many countries in which married women fast from sunrise to moon rise for the safety and longevity of their husbands. The women look at the moon through a sieve? What may be the meaning in this act?

Yea..the moon is looked through a sieve. Even i don't know the exact reason behind this, as its a very old tradition and there are different beliefs related to same. Some say that it is a prayer to the Karwa chauth moon to show its filtered rays. The filtered rays signify the blessings of only happiness and good in life. Others believe that as its fourth day of hindi month, its not auspicious to look at the moon directly, so through a sieve. But apart from anything, its a tradition that is continued from very long, and so we do it same way. :)
