9 Weeks to Go!

The countdown to Christmas seems to have started in many parts of the world already. Even a fellow blogger said she was buying Christmas gifts already to avoid the financial burden of price hikes later. Yesterday I went to one of our BIG supermarkets and there too, the ringing of Christmas carols over the sound system flooded my ears to a point where I thought - Why so early? 67 DAYS . . . . . 9 weeks to go, more than 2 months and people are anticipating this years Christmas. I would love for it to be more a celebration closer to the time - one that lasts long enough for it to be fabulous and one that ends quick enough that we don't overstay our welcome - so to say. What are your thoughts about the build-up to Special Holidays and the Media HYPE that causes all the Frenzy around them? Where are the days that a bottle of homemade JAM or a knitted scarf was just the right gift for any occasion?

Here in the Philippines , Christmas celebration begins when September 1 comes . You can hear the radios playing Christmas carols . Malls will be having sales and Christmas decors can be seen already . In government offices , their bonuses begins to arrive by October . Thus some of them are also beginning to shop for gifts . As for me , i buy gifts when our 13th month pay is released on the first week of December .

@SophieY Indeed , the Filipinos exaggerates the celebration . In fact , i am listening to a Christmas medley being played now at FM station i am listening to.

My family knows they get something handmade from me. I need to get busy making things though as it will be here before I know it.

i agree with the festivities that start too soon overstaying their welcome. It is nicer to celebrate it closer to the actual date. Out here there are so many festivals, things only start selling 10-14 days ahead of time and are taken off within 2 days of the festivals being over.

I enjoy Christmas music and the whole build up to it. It is such a beautiful time of year. I would still be very happy with homemade Jam or a knitted scarf. Homemade gifts are the best. It is coming fast. Our annual Santa Claus parade is less then a month away.
