#5 in my Favorite "Boy" Songs belongs to The Smiths with their song "The Boy with the Thorn in His Side."
Led by vocalist Morrissey and guitarist Johnny Marr, The Smiths formed in Manchester, England, in 1982. They lasted untuil 1987 before breaking up.
(Fun Wikipedia Fact: Prior to The Smiths formation, Morrissey wrote a book about punk band The New York Dolls.)
(Another Fun Wikipedia Fact: Morrissey hates his first name, Steven, so much that he forbids his inner circle from using it.)
"The Boy with the Thorn in His Side," from the band's 1985 Gold record The Queen is Dead, was released as a single, charting at #23 in England, and #15 in Ireland, but no US action.. Morrissey claims the song is about the music industry, which is represented by the thorn in the title.
Sadly, The Smiths issued only four studio albums during their short career. The Queen is Dead is widely considered their best.

It sucks when such talented bands or musicians have such short careers. I was reading about a pretty famous hardcore punk group that has not put out an album since 2009 because all the band memebers have families to support and had to get corporate employment to support their families. Love this song by the way.

@teamfreak16 Strike Anywhere. They did say they are trying to get together to make another album.

They were nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Shame...er....Fame last year. They should've been inducted, given that they were very popular everywhere except in the US. It's nauseating to think that Journey's going to be inducted before the Smiths.
PS - if you're doing girl name songs down the line I hope "Sheila Take a Bow" is on the list.
