Day 46 Proverbs 11:24 Proverbs 11:24 There is that scatters, and yet increases; and there is that withholds more than is meet, but it tends to poverty. 25 The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that waters shall be watered also himself. 26 He that withholds corn, the people shall curse him: but blessing shall be upon the head of him that sells it. People have multiple opinions about people who have money and how they spend it, and those who don’t have money. Solomon showed that a person who gives, receives. However, those who hold onto their wealth will lose it. Jesus also showed that a person who gives freely will also receive abundantly. Luke 6:38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again. (KJV) When God gave Moses the law on Mount Sinai, he told how people were to give their tithes back to God. Leviticus 27:30 And all the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land, or of the fruit of the tree, is the LORD’S: it is holy unto the LORD. 31 And if a man will at all redeem ought of his tithes, he shall add thereto the fifth part thereof. 32 And concerning the tithe of the herd, or of the flock, even of whatsoever passes under the rod, the tenth shall be holy unto the LORD. 33 He shall not search whether it be good or bad, neither shall he change it: and if he change it at all, then both it and the change thereof shall be holy; it shall not be redeemed. 34 These are the commandments, which the LORD commanded Moses for the children of Israel in mount Sinai. God also spoke about offerings. Deuteronomy 12:17 Thou may not eat within thy gates the tithe of thy corn, or of thy wine, or of thy oil, or the firstlings of thy herds or of thy flock, nor any of thy vows which thou vow, nor thy freewill offerings, or heave offering of thine hand: 18 But thou must eat them before the LORD thy God in the place which the LORD thy God shall choose, thou, and thy son, and thy daughter, and thy manservant, and thy maidservant, and the Levite that is within thy gates: and thou shalt rejoice before the LORD thy God in all that thou put thine hands unto. In other words, God told the people they were not to eat the tithe or offering they promised to give to God, but were to give God all they promised of tithes and offerings. Solomon knew his wealth was from God, and freely gave God all he required and a lot more. At the dedication of the temple Solomon dedicated a separate altar for the burnt offerings because the brazen altar he made couldn’t handle all his offerings. 2 Chronicles 7:5 And king Solomon offered a sacrifice of twenty and two thousand oxen, and a hundred and twenty thousand sheep: so the king and all the people dedicated the house of God. 7 Moreover Solomon hallowed the middle of the court that was before the house of the LORD: for there he offered burnt offerings, and the fat of the peace offerings, because the brazen altar which Solomon had made was not able to receive the burnt offerings, and the meat offerings, and the fat. Today people hold onto whatever money they have after their bills are accounted for, afraid that giving anything to charity or in the offering plate in church will ruin them. However, it has been shown that when you give your tithe to God, God makes certain all the bills are paid and there is plenty left over for other things. God told Moses that his portion was first, and when we do the same, there is always enough to take care of everything else in our lives. As Christians, when we give to God, he takes care of us in every way – physically and financially. When you withhold from God, God withholds from you. When you give to God, God gives to you. Let’s pray: Father, help me give, not only my tithe, but my offerings as well so you will bless me as your Word promises not with a closed fist but an open hand, freely giving because I love you. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen. Copyright © 22 October 2016 by Valerie Routhieaux Image courtesy of Pixabay

Yes God does take care of our needs. We got everything that we wanted in a house when we moved. Who could ask for anything more.
