Since there are people out there that will gladly lie to you, while looking directly into your eyes, I'm doing a series, Favorite "Lie" Songs. Coming in at #6 is Depeche Mode's "Lie to Me."
Depeche Mode formed in 1980, as an electronic synth-pop group. After leader Vince Clarke split to form Yazoo, Martin Gore took over as leader and main songwriter. The band progressed, becoming darker and more gloomy. They have, according to Wikipedia, sold over 100 million records worldwide, and have placed 50 songs on the UK Singles chart, and have, over the years, performed in front of over 30 million people. The band is highly influential--pretty much any electronic, and darkwave group cites Depeche Mode as an influence.
"Lie to Me," from their 1984 album Some Great Reward, was not a hit, and was overshadowed by other album tracks such as '"People are People," "Blasphemous Rumors," and "Master and Servant." "Lie to Me" is not merely filler, however. Overshadowed though it may be, it is not filler. In fact, it may not have been a hit, yet is stands up quite next to those popular songs. In fact, as far as I'm concerned, it's one of the better songs on what is a great album.
Enjoy!

It just didn't make the cut. Mostly because I like the Bob Welch era of Fleetwood Mac better than the Lindsay/Stevie show.

Good timing. Depeche Mode have been nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

I saw that. I'm rooting for them. Guess I'd better get off my butt and vote for them.

I love them too. Seen them twice, once at Red Rocks, where they were great, but the second time I only thought they were ok.Still worth it, though.

I knew if anyone liked it, it would be you. As Lux Interior sang in the Cramps song, "You got Good Taste."
