More freedom

When my father passed away, I felt that I got more freedom to do the things that I love to do. It was my childhood dream to be able to travel but my parents especially my father was very cynical about that thing. I think it is because I am a woman and daddy was always worried about me compared to my mom. After long discussions with mom, she finally let me travel. My first plan was to travel alone but she was worried about me. When my boyfriend decided to go with me every time I travel, that makes it better for mom. I know that from the eyes of others it is not good that it is only I and my boyfriend who travel. In a Filipino culture, that thing is surely a No-No. But my mom told me I am adult enough to know what is right and wrong. Are you a parent? When did you start to give more freedom to your kids?

I'm not a parent yet. But I agree wit your Mom. You are a big girl already, so just take care of yourself!

@Ayuriny True. Thank you so much! Do you have a plan to get married someday and have kids?

When our daughter graduated from her first course , i gave her more freedom . But her father would always restrict her , but i would contradict and talk it out with him , thus he concedes . She's now a doctor , 25 , yet she said she will still specialize in General Surgery - Oncology , before she and her boyfriend , also a doctor marries .

My father was also more of a worrier than my mom. I remember when I was about to take my Chinese friend to NAIA, he strictly told my friend to take good care of me and make sure I would go back home safely.

@annierose Mothers are more lenient . It's always the fathers who are strict and worriers .

Yes, I like the freedom even though what she is doing might raise objections from the older people in our community.

I would have done the same thing if I ever became the parent. It's a different scenario when your kid is too young to understand the responsibility of being themselves. They could end up being in the wrong influence, most specially this generation. Well, my dad is in abroad so I got freedom myself.

I was already in my 20's when I was asking their permission for me to be able to work abroad. I don't know but I really want to go abroad. My parents, especially my dad would object to that idea. They usually tell me I have a stable job here and we have a good life already, so what's the point of going abroad.

Once my children were 18 I considered them old enough to make their own decisions. I still gave them advice, but that was it. They were soon off around the world, and have been to places I'm never likely to see.

Here in the Philippines, 18 is still a young age. My mom even scolds us and watch our every move even we are already on our late 20's, 30's, and so on. I am just glad now that somehow she is letting me do things my own.

My kids are still young, so they don't have any freedom yet. But once they get old enough, as long as they know from right and wrong. I'm fine with them traveling and making their own choices.

It is good to hear that. Your culture is very different from us here in the Philippines. By the way, how old are your kids?

You know I am not a parent. I can't answer your question. We know what is right but men are....... I prefer not to say.
