This was written by my one and only husband, Nicholas.
An inmate on death-row, killing time.
It's all he can do, to count the hours lost to his, his family.
"If only," he thinks, "If only I hadn't done it."
Thinking back, he sees it, the torment he holds to his heart.
The face of the woman whose life he had taken, the whole reason for incarceration.
He thinks about the anger that led to killing her, the feeling that he had in his gut, telling him no.
He sobs woefully, tormented once again as to the reason.
A simple man, once successful, who fell into hard times of his life.
Taking the life of the woman for the money in her purse to feed his habit.
He thinks back on his entire life and wonders how it came to this.
Furious and distraught with his situation, he weeps, the days pass and the torment grows.
Begging for forgiveness, he soon realizes it isn't so easy, he realizes his choices have consequences and there is no escape for him.
The day his death arrives and he is no longer distraught, no longer tormented by the demons of his past.
Against the odds, he meets the victim of his cruel choice in death.
She welcomes him with open arms and he knows that he has received what he has searched for in life.
Forgiveness.

He said, "Thank you. It was very long ago that I wrote it, and I didn't believe anyone would like it. I'm glad that you do."
