Favorite "Lie" Songs #3 - "The Needle Lies"

We're at #3 in my Favorite "Lie" Songs series, songs with some semblance of "Lie" in the title. The #3 spot belongs to Seattle's Queensryche and their song "The Needle Lies. Queensryche formed in 1982 and set about making what SPIN Magazine once called "thinking man's metal." Despite a couple of lineup changes, and a decline in popularity, the band is still alive and kicking. Although they did not win, Queensryche, has been nominated for three Grammy Awards, with drummer Scott Rockenfeld garnering an additional, personal Grammy nomination, according to Wikipedia. From their classic 1988 concept album, Operation: Mindcrime, "The Needle Lies" is about a disenchanted young man named Nikki, who has become a heroin-addicted assassin for an underground revolution. The song comes at about midpoint in the album, with Nikki realizing how addicted he has become. While Operation: Mindcrime spawned two hit songs, "The Needle Lies" was not one of them, yet it is a central, vital part of the album. Oh yeah, it rocks pretty hard, too. Enjoy!
Queensryche - The Needle Lies Nikki: "I've had enough and I WANT OUT!" Dr. X: "You can't walk away now." I looked back once And all I saw was his face Smilin...

Queensryche would be a member of the Metal Hall of Fame.

@teamfreak16 I just read an interesting article condemning the R&R HOF for its biased against heavy metal (as well as punk and 80s Brit bands). Only Metalica is in. No Slayer, Def Lepard, Motorhead, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden.

@JohnRoberts - Well, you know, they need to make room for Hall and Oates...

They should be in for Mindcrime alone.

I read that Geoff Tate doesn't like being called "thinking man's metal," but there are worse things they could be called, I guess. That's quite an interesting concept for an album. Truthful statement, too: "don't ever trust the needle, it lies."

Wonder why he doesn't like it. I'd consider it a compliment.

No problem. The album was pretty much aimed at heavy metal fans. You might not have heard it since it wasn't a hit.

I love Queensryche up until they fired Geoff Tate. I could care less about anything after.
