Taking care of the animals

I am a total animal lover. I work with the local humane societies with rescuing cats and dogs that can't be placed in homes because of serious abuse issues. I have 12 rescue cats because of people that abused them to the point that they were very likely to not recover from the abuse. After many many months of intensive work I've been able to bring them back from their distrust of humans. Petey, an orange tabby, is one of the worst cases. He had been severely beaten by the people that had him. I agreed to take him in and work with him. It took nearly a year to gain his trust but he is now the sweetest little boy that I have ever known. It brings me to the point of my discussion. We ALL need to help the animals. They were given to us to care for and to love. I not only have the 12 cats but also feed 18 deer because of the lack of food due to the drought in California. What satisfaction is there in abusing animals? Isn't it more rewarding to treat them with kindness and love? They give so much more back to us when we treat them with the love and respect that they deserve. Without the creatures of the earth we would be in serious trouble because of the imbalance of nature. Think about it before you decide to abuse an animal. Even mice and rats have their place in nature! I sit here surrounded by 6 of the 12 cats and am hoping that this will impact one person before they decide to abuse a creature. Is it really that rewarding to have an animal terrified of you? Love from a creature is the purest love a person can get...it doesn't come with strings attached, it is pure and simple love. To my fellow animal lovers, Christmas is coming and wouldn't it be a wonderful gift to present your local humane society with a donation? I have several in my area that I support, and I plan to donate a special bear for them to either auction or raffle for more funds to help with their mission. Instead of a gift that the recipient might not want, give them the gift of a donation to your local humane society, given in their name. It is a gift that can keep on giving.

A number of years ago I adopted a Persian cat named Sassy from the local human society. Sassy was rescued from a puppy mill. They found her and the male locked in a lobster cage. They were matted, covered in sores, flea infested, ear mites, eye infections and starving. They estimates them to be about two years old. The male cat did not survive. Sassy got excellent vet care. They said her uterus was paper thin from having so many kittens. The puppy mill had used her for breeding and having kittens to sell. At the same time they also rescued 27 dogs. 14 if them had to be put down. I adopted Sassy after she was back in good health but she had trust issues. She would not let you pick her up. It use to break my heart to see her sitting all alone in a corner. With a lot of love and patience I notice slowly she would be closer to where we were. Then one day she got on the couch and sat beside me. She didnt want me to pick her up but she sat there and I heard her purring , I was in tears. She came so far. She didn't live a long life. I only had her for maybe 5 years but I was happy that I was able to give her that loving home that she so deserved. I still cry when I think of the life she had. I will never understand people being so mean to animals. God bless you for all that you do.

I'm sitting here with tears running down my face. I hope that the people who had Sassy before you gave her a wonderful home were prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law! To be so absolutely horrible to such precious creatures is unforgiveable! Those people should be treated the same way that they treated the animals that they were torturing! It is for all the Sassys that I do what I do. My sibling...I can't call him a brother because not only did he torture me but he also tortured animals...took such great delight in being horrible to animals. It is something I can't forget or forgive. I haven't been in contact with him in 30 years and it doesn't matter if I ever hear from him again... I will be making a donation to one of the cat shelters in Sassy's name. Her legacy will continue on. Hugs and love for what you did for such a dear kitty.

@CrazyBearLady thank you so much that means a lot. I can see you not having anything to do with your brother. He sounds like a terrible person. The laws aren't very strict here so they didn't get much for what they did. They ban them from owning animals again but they never force it so they continue to do the same. They got a fine but no jail time.

You're right. What satisfaction can it bring to torture an animal?

I am beginning to believe that it is people that aren't secure in themselves and no feelings of self worth that lowers them to the point of torturing animals. It isn't much of an excuse, but if these people were to open their minds and hearts maybe they could see that there isn't anything to be gained by torturing animals.
