Chris Bahr reports the news on Thursday Chicago Cubs outfielder Kyle Schwarber who played in the role of designated hitter during the first two games of the 2016 World Series that were played at Progressive Field in Cleveland Ohio will not only be playing as a pinch hitting role when the next three games of the Fall Classic will be played in Wrigley Field in Chicago Illinois.
Schwarber suffered two torn ligaments on his left knee when he was involved in a collision with another Cubs outfielder on April 7, 2016. Schwarber was sidelined for the entire regular baseball season before he was added to the Cubs World Series roster.
Schwarber has been very productive during the first two games of the World Series by having three base hits in seven at bats with two walks and two runs batted in.
The 2016 World Series is currently tied at one game apiece between the Chicago Cubs and Cleveland Indians.
The next three games will be played at Wrigley Field in Chicago where the designated hitter rule is not in effect.
If the World Series does return for a sixth and seventh game at Progressive Field in Cleveland then Schwarber will resume his role as designated hitter once again.

Everything goes right for the Cubs. Schwarber plays for the first time in the World Series and does good. What is going to happen to the Cub outfield next season? It's crowded with Fowler (he's their catalyst), Heywood (a bust but a huge contract), Zobrist (he can't go to second because of Baez), Schwarber who may be a star, Soler who's good, trusty bench guy Coughlin and the promising Almora. The Cubs are in the driver's seat to make a trade.

@JohnRoberts U R correct since baseball is a business and the price of winning a World Series with young players is they command a huge salary when they become free agents.

@Deepizzaguy You only had to wait forever! The Cubs have to win now because the window is narrow. Bryant, Rizzo, Russell and the young players aren't in the big money yet and the Cubs can't afford to keep them all. You know Bryant will get an insane contract.

Joe Maddon is incredible with the way he allows his players to be recognized by the fans. Remember when he took David Ross out at the Cubs' last home game, just so Ross could be honored by the crowd? I know he's going to find a way to get Schwarber into the game.
With those dreams of Kurt Gibson in 1988 I could only hope that Schwarber hits the World Series-winning home run in the bottom of the 9th Sunday night.
I don't know if Chicago would ever recover if that were to happen!!
PS -- it really feels great to have to spell Schwarber again!

I was thinking about Kirk Gibson in the 1988 World Series too.
