You need to learn how to change the settings in your email client so as to filter out spam messages. Every email client is slightly different but the major ones (Hotmail, Windows Live, Outlook, Gmail, Yahoo Mail &c.) all have settings which will send 99% of the unsolicited mail directly to your spam or junk folder.
Many people fail to distinguish between legitimate marketing emails which they have signed up for when they subscribe to a site and have checked (or forgotten to uncheck) a box which allows the site to send them emails and genuine 'spam' emails. You should first try to sort out those sites to which you have subscribed but have forgotten about. All genuine sites include an 'Unsubscribe' link at the bottom of the email. As long as you remember subscribing to the site, it is safe to use that link but beware of emails from sites which you don't remember subscribing to! Very often the 'Unsubscribe' link is there but all it does is to tell the sender that you have received the email (and therefore that your email is valid).
Explore the settings/options available to you in your email client and make sure that 'Filter junk mail' or something similar is set to ON. You should also consider only allowing emails from addresses in your Contacts list (but make sure that you enter new contacts when you sign up for something you actually want an email from!).
