Hindus have the ritual of lighting 14 Diyas during Diwali.
The diyas are earthen diyas which lit by adding oil.
They are lit on the day of Amavasya.
The evil forces are cast away by lighting the houses with 14 diyas.
It is a sacred ritual.

Children of our foster home lit 14 diyas and kept them at both sides of the main door.Earlier, they collected 14 different kinds of leaves to make saag. But unfortunately, no one could tell me the significance of the number 14.

The significance of 14 is that, Kalipuja or Lakshmipuja is done on Chaturdashi, the 14th day of the Native calender. At the same time God Rama came back after 14 years exile and did Puja in diwali after defeating Ravan.
