Okay, in Ireland there is a great debate at the moment about whether people should be allowed have any alcohol taken before getting in their cars. The limit here is 0.8 Do you think that all drink driving of any sort should be banned?

I believe your intellect and your heart are trying to do the best thing for all concerned, but I don't think that kind of law would be effective, its results could make things worse. But that's just my thought, if they were banned from drinking and driving altogether I hope it works out.

I know here the limit is slightly higher than the EU average...but no surprise there as this IS Ireland we're talking about!

Car/Bus Accident - Picture of a car and school buss involved in an accident
Artsimba. Why don't you think that that kind of law would be effective and why would its' result make things worse. Somehow we HAVE to make the adults (because they set the example) that ALL drinking while driving is not acceptable. If one knows that he is going to drive home after a party then he should wait until he gets home to do his drinking. We, as human beings, have NO RIGHT to put the lives of others in jeopardy just for our own pleasure. FORGET ABOUT THE ME GENERATION and start thinking about OUR GENERATION. Also consider this....gin and vermouth combine for a good cocktail.....that and driving could result in the loss of lives.

Unfortunately there is a clash of views when it comes to people in the rural community who say they know the roads like the back of their hands and can make it home. Most of the crashes occur in urban areas...and it has to be one rule for all....

drinking - Drinking can be fun, just do it in moderation...and don't drink and drive. The life you save may be your own.
I do not agree with drinking and driving. I see accidents on TV every day where a drunk driver has killed one or more people...sometimes even wiping out a whole family. Why take that chance? Could you live with knowing you had a few drinks, got in your car, and ended up killing someone? I couldn't. I live in a large city now, but I used to live in a small city, and we had many drunk drivers there that had accidents and either killed themself or someone else. If I ever get to Ireland, I'll remember to look out for drinking drivers. LOL. I'll be interested in seeing how this turns out over there.

No bother. Also watch out for where country roads meet urban areas. I've a sociology lecturer who's written a book on it - 'Collision Culture'...I would go into more detail but....!
