After being flown to Las Angeles on the back of another plane, and then towed through the streets of Los Angeles by a small Toyota pickup truck at a cost of $2 billion, the space shuttle Endeavor ended up in its own hangar at the California Science Museum. It is amazing to be able to walk around and under it. The photo above shows my husband and grandson looking up at the space shuttle just as we walked through the door of the hanger that holds the shuttle. My grandson is taking a photo of it. Around the room there are pictures of all the shuttles, videos of them in action, and docents who stroll around and answer visitor's questions. When you realize that this vehicle flew in space dozens of times, it is incredible to be able to reach up and touch it.

I don't understand why NASA couldn't just make a new Shuttle and continue to transport astronauts like the way before. Good for you seeing this shuttle.

I was told that they stopped building the shuttle because they want to work on a more versatile space craft ... perhaps one that could go further, like to Mars.

@DeborahDiane So they want another shuttle like space craft that could go back and forth to mars? that's a long term work out to do.

I would ask if you caught some star dust, but that is all around. We are also made out of it, but that little venture sounds pretty big and cool to be something that was in actual space without the earths protection.

Yes, it is amazing to look at a space shuttle, touch it, and realize that it has floated in outer space. Incredible.

If you ever get to Los Angeles, you will have to spend a day at the California science museum. It is well worth it.
