Something Interesting On Today's News

I heard on the news today, something that we should all be interested in knowing. Young people don’t realize that the internet has not always been around.
In fact, it was today, October 29, 1969, that the first connection on the internet was made. The connection was made between UCLA and Stanford Research Institute.
That was just 47 years ago. I was already 28 years old, and it was a long time after that before I ever sat down to a computer.
Another interesting fact was mentioned in the report. The internet is NOT the same as the World Wide Web that we use to navigate on the internet.
The World Wide Web was invented by Tim Berners-Lee. Without the World Wide Web, the internet wouldn’t be of much use, I guess.
That was news to me. I suppose all the young people know that, but as I’ve said before, I am very technologically challenged. I know how to do some things on the internet, but there is MUCH more that I need to learn.

That was yesterday in my country. Thank you very much for this informative post. The internet is such a huge library. Almost everything can be found on the internet.

That's definitely ONE thing I LIKE about the internet. Finding answers and other interesting information so easily.

@annierose I definitely do. I do a lot of research on a lot of different subjects. I used to go to the library and use their encyclopedias but the internet is so much easier.

@IreneVincent valuable piece of information and not many people might have been aware of. Instead of just posting a status turned discussion , this discussion is worth.

i realized that a lot of things can be found on the internet. if we're just curious enough and type what we had in mind, we'll always be surprised at what comes up.

I like that about the internet. Almost every day, I'm looking up something. And it's so easy. That's a GOOD thing.

Longer that I had at first thought and yet I knew that my own brother designed computers for GE a long time ago,. He was an electrical engineer and compared to me, he was a mathematical genius.

The computer "age" is definitely here NOW. I just often weight the good points with the bad and sometimes I wonder if we would have been better off without it.

I just wonder if that is entirely a GOOD thing. I have my doubts sometimes, when I think about all the scammers who access and steal from bank accounts and commit other criminal acts.
